This page provides information about the valid indicative distribution map for the ecosystem functional group F2.4 Freeze-thaw freshwater lakes. For older or alternative maps, see here.

Methods

Here is the methods summary for Map code and version: F2.4.web.mix v1.0.

Location of small and large natural lakes was taken from the HydroLAKES database (types 1 an 3 in Messager et al. 2016). We included all lakes with minimum temperature below 0°C (Linke et al. 2019). Occurrences were aggregated to ten minute spatial resolution.

Datasets

HydroAtlas-1.0 (Linke et al. 2019):

Source of Hydrography. Resolution: <1km2, static. Accuracy evaluation: derived from sources.

HydroLAKES-1.0 (Messager et al. 2016):

Source of validated distribution records. Resolution: <1km2, static. Accuracy evaluation: quantitative (subsets).

Processing

Processing steps used in this map are: Thresholds :: Reclassification.

Map evaluation

This map is considered to be a Medium quality map based on the following characteristics:

Concept alignment is Direct,general.

Ground observations are NA.

The accuracy evaluation Compiled from reputable source data, documented, quantitative, derived from sources.

How to use the data

Available files

Following maps are considered current and valid indicative distribution maps for this ecosystem functional group. Web navigation maps are optimised for use in webapps, but they have similar methods and differ only in details of format and processing.
