This page provides information about the valid indicative distribution map for the ecosystem functional group MFT1.3 Coastal saltmarshes and reedbeds. For older or alternative maps, see here.

Methods

Here is the methods summary for Map code and version: MFT1.3.web.orig v2.0.

The indicative map for for coastal saltmarshes and reedbeds (MFT1.3) was developed by resampling known distribution records summarised by McOwen et al. (2017). We used a buffer of 1km around the distribution data and a 30 arc second grid, thus large aggregations (> 1km2) are depicted as major occurrences, and the buffer areas with small occurrences are shown as minor occurrences. The original data is available at UNEP-WCMC.

Datasets

GlobalSaltmarshes2017 (McOwen et al. 2017):

Source of validated distribution records. Resolution: <1km2, static. Accuracy evaluation: qualitative (experts judgement).

How to use the data

Available files

Following maps are considered current and valid indicative distribution maps for this ecosystem functional group. Web navigation maps are optimised for use in webapps, but they have similar methods and differ only in details of format and processing.

  • Web navigation (code: MFT1.3.web.orig, version v2.0)
  • Indicative Map (code: MFT1.3.IM.orig, version v1.0)

You can download geospatial data for this map from the following sources:
