This page provides information about the valid indicative distribution map for the ecosystem functional group F2.10 Subglacial lakes. For older or alternative maps, see here.

Methods

Here is the methods summary for Map code and version: F2.10.web.mix v2.0.

Major occurrences of subglacial lakes were mapped as point records from Wright and Siegert (2012), Bowler et al. (2019), Marteinsson et al. (2013) and Livingstone et al. (2016). Unmapped lakes are likely to occur within areas with permanent snow and ice cover and were mapped as minor occurrences based on permanent snow and ice from Dinerstein et al. (2017) and Tuanmu et al. (2014).

Processing

Processing steps used in this map are: Reclassification :: Buffering :: Selection.

Map evaluation

This map is considered to be a Coarse quality map based on the following characteristics:

Concept alignment is Direct,specific.

Ground observations are indirect.

The accuracy evaluation Known records,undocumented.

How to use the data

Available files

Following maps are considered current and valid indicative distribution maps for this ecosystem functional group. Web navigation maps are optimised for use in webapps, but they have similar methods and differ only in details of format and processing.

  • Web navigation (code: F2.10.web.mix, version v2.0)
  • Indicative Map (code: F2.10.IM.mix, version v1.0)

You can download geospatial data for this map from the following sources:

F2.10.web.mix (v2.0): Google Cloud bucket :: Zenodo repository (bundle of maps) :: Earth Engine assets

F2.10.IM.mix (v1.0): Google Cloud bucket :: Zenodo repository (bundle of maps)

Note that you need to login to some services like mapbox or earthengine, and in some cases you also need to request access to the files.
